Testimonials
Just wanted to say thankyou for bringing music back into my
life and my soul.
I had made a new year’s resolution to do something for
me this year.
I thought I had a bit of an ear for music – I used to
be able to play by ear only (didn’t know any notes) Then
one day I picked my harp up like I had known it for years and
just could bend each and every note singly, clearly. So, thank
you so much for being able to pass on your valuable knowledge
and expertise on so easily to me and the other students.
It was easy to understand and most of all fun! Collette Sydney
I
would just like to say that I really enjoyed the course, I think
the structure was great and the hands on access to someone with
your ability to play and teach was great. I appreciated the
opportunity to learn from someone of your calibre and look forward
to continuing my learning at the next course. This is something
I have wanted to do since I was 15 and finally at 51 I have
started on the road to being a blues harmonica player, all I
did was get the numbers reversed. The penny dropped when I finally
realised that what you were teaching us on the C harmonica was
the same position in any other key. I have a copy of Jerry Portnoy’s
Masterclass and think your course was just as valuable.

The
course is going really well, gives me something to think about
other than work & weekends!! It's the first music course
or recreational course i've ever done, and i'm lovin it.
The techniques are really helpful and you explain them
well. For the last 4 months i've had my harp, i've been
blowin away not knowing what i'm doing, now i've got something
to focus on and can pick up on what i'm hearing when other people
play.Anthony Sydney
Just
a quick line to let you know how much I enjoyed the Blues Harmonica
course over the past two weekends.Firstly I might mention that
I'm known for having a short attention span, but for the first
time I could not believe how fast the time went byon both
days! I was expecting to be bored with theory etc.. but
that just wasn't the case. I found the course structure to be
informative and
interesting with a great mix of theory and practice and your
teaching style undoubtedly makes it easy to learn.
I enjoyed the fact that although you've been playing harmonica
for many years now, you were just as enthusiastic as us newbie's,
so were made to feel comfortable from the start.
Aside from the teaching we also learnt a lot about the
tools of the trade, how they differ in their uses and the
various sounds we could expect from each style.
Having both yourself and Ian Collard there on the second Sunday
was a bonus, giving us glimpse of contrasting styles and I think
it probably helped give us a better feel for improvisation.
Even though I opted out when it came time to play solo in front
of the other guys, I didn't feel pressure to perform
and I wasn't left feeling like a fool. I appreciate that and
I know that eventually with practice the confidence will come.
A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by an enthusiastic
bunch of guys and I'm sure they all agree that it was money
well spent!
All in all, a fantastic experience and I'll certainly
be back for more.
Keep up the good work.

Hi
Doug,
FIrst, thanks for the workshop over that last two weekends.
I really enjoyed it and will have a lot more confidence, after
a bit of practice, having a crack at jamming with friends. Also
enjoyed having Ian involved - especially our little jam sessions
and playing together. Good fun. I'll probably chase Ian up for
some top-up lessons before long - easy for me as he's local.
